After working as a film editor for studios like Twentieth Century FOX and Fox Searchlight Pictures, Justin left the film Industry to explore the world of photography and design. Justin now is a full-time photographer and graphic designer based out of New York, NY and Long Beach, CA.
“My photography continues to change as I learn more about the medium and myself. For most of my career as a photographer I’ve documented people on the streets of New York, Los Angeles and other inner cities. As of late, I have also started to shoot oceans, mountain ranges, and desert landscapes.
I search for moments and locations that offer another look at something common. I use the light and color to help tell stories of people and places that allow the common viewer to see something different in an otherwise very normal place. Some of my recent work has started to look almost like they could be paintings if printed and hung on a wall. I like this.
I like to create images that have to be looked at again. Something that at first glance may not tell the whole story. Blurry lines, washed-out colors, murky contrasted scenes are all things that allow the image to create emotion when viewed. I’ve always liked to hang an image on my wall and overtime as I pass by it day after day sometimes I’ll stop and see something new.
It’s important for me to create work that provokes. I want to capture images that can start a story or pose a question for the viewer for years to come. My work continues to grow as I do myself with my work but I’m happy with where I’m at currently in this process.” – Justin Snyder
